Pack Transfers

Why not fly your packs up on the first day of the Kepler, and enjoy walking light? The first day on the Kepler Track is a beautiful yet challenging climb up to Luxmore Hut. You wind your way through gorgeous beech forest, past enormous rock formations and up into the alpine meadows, with wide-open views out over the mountains and Lake Te Anau. By helicoptering your packs you’ll enjoy the climb more, and have loads of energy to take the side-walk from the hut to the cave system that afternoon. Best of all, you’ll be thanking us for having fresh shoulders for the second day of the walk: the most challenging day.

FLIGHT ADD-ON RATE FOR PACK TRANSFER:

$60.00 per pack

This rate is a special deal, available when there is already a flight booked going to, or near to Luxmore Hut. If for any reason the flight is cancelled or we cannot fit your packs in, but you’re still very keen to walk without a pack, you have the option of chartering our aircraft yourself.

If you would like to confirm your pack transfer, our charter rate for up to 15 packs is $600 incl GST.

**During the Great Walks Season we are only permitted to land at Luxmore Hut between the hours of 10am-3pm**

The pilots will place them safe and dry inside the hut – away from the weather and the kea!

The pilots make a call on the weather each morning. If the weather is uncertain, we will cancel the flight before you start walking, to avoid your bags being stranded in Te Anau.

We have based the packs on an average of 15kg pack. If your pack is heavier, please have a chat with our friendly team in the office for further information about this – there may be a solution.

  • Stunningly Beautiful. Amazing trip with Heff as our pilot. Scenic views breathtaking & landings amazing. Views can’t be seen anywhere else in the world.

  • WORTH EVERY PENNY! We did the Doubtful Sound flight and it was the most amazing experience I have ever done! Craig was an amazing pilot who was super chill and easy to chat with and made it just that little bit better.

Mackenzie – February 2021 – Stewart Island, NZ

  • Our photos do not do justice to the feeling of standing what felt like the top of the world. The feeling of total amazement was worth every dollar it cost to do and I’d do it again when we can. This is an absolute must do and I’d highly recommend Southern Lakes Helicopters.

Phil – August 2021 – Havelock North, NZ
