NVGNight Vision Work


Southern lakes Helicopters are CAA approved operators of Night Vision equipment crew and aircraft.

We operate IV generation III Night Vision Omni 4 equipment specifically for the following:

  • Search and Rescue operations
  • Medivacs
  • Law enforcement Support

Southern Lakes Helicopters are AIA Certified and we work with the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust (since its inception in 1992) as an Air Rescue/Air Ambulance Operator.

Richard Hayes has been doing SAR & EMS work since 1975 and has been honoured in the NZ Honours. He was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM), and also received a Merit Award by the New Zealand Police for his work in Search and Rescue.

Winch equipped since 1995. Night Sun Equipped.

Pioneered flights to the Sub Antarctics, Auckland & Campbell Islands on EMS/Winch operations.

Originally imported in 2003 Omni IV generation III NVG's from Litton USA. Trained by ASU April 2005.
