Company Profile
Southern Lakes Helicopters is based in Te Anau and is owned and operated by Richard and Carol Hayes.

Richard "Hannibal" Hayes, a pioneer in the Fiordland Region and highly skilled long time operator on venison recovery, formed Southern Lakes Helicopters in 1982.

In 2000, Richard and Carol formed the sister company Heliworks Queenstown Helicopters to meet the demand for services from Queenstown.

The Civil Aviation Authority issued licenses to Southern Lakes Helicopters to undertake all forms of air transport operations.

The companies are members of the Aviation Industry Association and hold licenses and permits to operate in Fiordland National Park and Conservation areas of Fiordland, Southland, Otago and Mt Aspiring National Park.

With a fleet of helicopters, including Squirrel Helicopters and R44 Raven Helicopters, Southern Lakes Helicopters offer an extensive range of professional helicopter services from high altitude operations, scenic flights through to tailored hunting and fishing expeditions.

Based at the doorstep of breathtaking and magnificent Fiordland World Heritage Park, the office of Southern Lakes Helicopters is located on the lakefront in Te Anau.

The company offers an aerial insight into an unspoilt region of New Zealand.

Southern Lakes Helicopters is proud to be a member of the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust Team for over 15 years.

Licences

The company holds concessions to operate in World Heritage Area Fiordland National Park and Southland/Otago Conservation areas. We can assist in obtaining permits to other locations.

Support Crews

SLH can recommend locally based specialist personnel to assist in all areas of support to your filming operation such as: grips, casting agencies, accommodation and catering.

Insurance

Our helicopters are fully insured. We are also fully insured for third party risk and liability (NZ $20million cover) US$350,000.00 any one occurance and NZ$100,000.00 per passenger seat. Additional insurance cover may be arranged on the full cost of goods carried (optional extra). Waiver of Subrogation option upon request.

Hangar Facilities
Available for overnight storage of rigged aircraft and for film equipment.
